We all know that self-care is more important than ever and, for many of us, soaking in a soothing bubble bath is a great way to unwind. We want our bathrooms to be functional, yes, but to also feel like a luxurious space to escape to.

One trend that’s expected to be big in the world of interior design as we move into 2021 is bathroom maximalism.

Homes and Property recently shared some of the interior predictions made by Houzz, with bathroom maximalism among them. What does this mean in practice? Think colour and opulence. “Pink, gold and navy bathrooms were big search terms in 2020 and Houzz says the trend for bathroom maximalism is set to explode in 2021,” the publication stated.

When it comes to creating luxurious interiors, it’s often the small details that make the biggest difference. Searching for gold cup handles that you can include on your bathroom storage, for instance, can help add a touch of opulence to your space.

If you team that with brass taps and other fittings in the golden metal, you’ll instantly make your space feel more luxurious and tie the whole look together.

As Living etc recently noted, one of the best ways to ensure you don’t go over the top with your modern bathroom design is to “stick to a limited palette or use colours with a neutral base, introducing them through feature walls or floors, furniture or accessories like taps and towels”.

You can also introduce some more interest to your walls by using textured tiles, rather than going all out for vibrant colours, if you want to stick with the understated look. This will also allow the gold accessories you introduce to really stand out and take centre stage in your bathroom design.
